2006 Aviation
Art Contest Rules for Students
Overview
All contestants will receive
a FREE admission coupon for the museum’s 5-story Observation Tower.
The Grissom Air Museum aviation
art contest "Beauty of Flight" is open to all Indiana students in grades
K-12 (public, private & home schools). Entries must be postmarked by
September 27, or hand delivered by October 2. Awards will be given at the
Grissom Air Museum’s Festival of Flight on October 14. Five grand prizes
will be awarded in combined grade categories, plus first through third
places will be awarded in each grade level. Winning works, along with all
entries (space permitting), will be publicly displayed at the museum throughout
October.
Rules

Subject matter of each entry
must be flight related. examples- aircraft, birds, butterflies, kites,
gliders, people related to flight, balloons, etc.

Entries must be original, hand-produced,
flat works of art. No electronic reproductions, tracings, or computer-generated
material.

Maximum size of artwork is 9”
X 12”, not including matting. Entries in grade categories 9-12 must be
matted. Entries must be submitted flat or rolled, not
folded.

Entries must have the following
information securely affixed to the back: student’s name, teacher’s name,
grade, title, and school information: name, telephone,
fax, and e-mail. (Schools with winners will be notified by e-mail and/or
fax, so please be sure these are accounts or numbers
which are checked on a daily basis. Individual student or parent e-mail
addresses may be included so that a copy of the notification can be sent
directly to the winners as well.)

Entries must be postmarked by
September 27, or hand delivered by October 2, 2006.

By entering, the artist gives
Grissom Air Museum permission to use their artwork for promotional, non-commercial
purposes.
Judging
The entries will be judged
by artists from the Midwest. The judges will be looking at technical ability
and creativity as it relates to the "Beauty of Flight" theme.

Optional: Contestants may chose
to attach a brief statement (50 words max.) about their medium, subject,
interpretation, or any other information they feel is relevant to judging.

Depictions of combat or crashes
must have appropriate historical basis, and be tastefully rendered. In
other words, generic depictions of carnage are not acceptable.
Awards
A division champion will
be awarded in each of five combined grade categories. In addition, 1st,
2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded in each grade level. Depending on the
number of entries, the number of awards may be expanded. Trophies and ribbons
will be given at a special ceremony during the museum’s Festival of Flight
on Saturday October 14. Winners will be notified through their school ahead
of time, and encouraged to attend, however they are not required to be
present to win. News releases with names of the winners, and their teachers
and schools will be provided for submission to the local media.
Return of Artwork
Artwork may be picked up
at the Grissom Air Museum after October 31, 2006. Teachers or parents may
submit a SASE for the return of entries. The Museum is not responsible
for artwork not picked up prior to December 31, 2006.

a field trip so your students can see, sketch, and learn about the airplanes.

Field trips and classroom activities
connected to the Grissom Air Museum can combine history, Indiana history,
and science, as well as aviation art. Please contact us for additional
